Arrowroot, is a starchy powder obtained from the rhizomes of the Arrowroot plant, typically grown in places like the West Indies. It is more easily digested and hence is very light on the stomach and in Victorian times it is used to be concocted into a jelly to babies being weaned.
The Arawak people of the Caribbean, who favored it highly and regarded it as a food with considerable nutritious value (in fact, they called it Aru Aru meaning, food of foods).
